Jesus's Message
of Merciful Love to the World
I. Background
- Marguerite (not a real name) was a Belgian wife and a mother who received
the divine communications in two ways, one intellectual, the other by way
of hearing. When these communications reach her intellect, they are manifested
by an apprehensible illumination which invades her mind, putting her instantly
into possession of knowledge which she does not inwardly formulate to herself,
but which she receives and contemplates without words. Those communications
which reach her by the way of hearing are expressed by articulated words
which have nothing in common with the material sounds the physical ear
can seize. Here it is a matter of spiritual hearing discerned in her heart.
- When she receives the Message by way of the intellect, Marguerite herself
works out a verbal expression of the truth imposed on her enlightened spirit
and transcribes it for us. This method of transmission is characterized
by St. John of the Cross as being made up of « successive words ».
It would appear evident that in such a case Marguerite puts the Message
into « her own words ». It follows as a matter of course that
she is subject to inexactitudes of language and to errors in spelling,
due either to inattention or to insufficient grammatical knowledge. It
is the task of her spiritual Director to correct these faults or verbal
inexactitudes, emending them to what she really wants to say, and of which
he is apprised by the context.
- In the second case, when Marguerite transmits the Message by reproducing
in writing the words « heard in her heart », error is impossible.
In this case the transmission is literal. And we find ourselves in the
presence of what St. John of the Cross calls « explicit » words,
because pronounced explicitly by Jesus.
- On April 1, 1967 Marguerite received the command to form the Order
of Little Souls of the Merciful Heart of Jesus. The consequence of this
has been the creation of numerous Legions of Little Souls all over the
world. Their mission is to transform the world by their prayers, their
sufferings, their holocaust of themselves. They can « change the
course of events (November 21, 1966), renew the face of the earth (May
22, 1967) ». They will be associated with Jesus in the work of Redemption
: « Little souls, will you be the children of the Redemption with
Me? Now I am asking you what My Father has asked of Me » (July 5,
1967).
- The following excerpts are based on the diary by Marguerite, Message
of Merciful Love to Little Souls, 1982, Pope Publications, San Rafael,
CA 94903.
- The excerpts scarcely do justice to the book which provides invaluable
teaching on spiritual perfection. Our Lord Himself indicated this : "The
Message is indeed the prolongation and deepening of St. Theresa's working
in souls." (June 22, 1971). Here, we focus only on Our Lord's analysis
of main problems of the world, the consequent necessity of chastisement,
and His answer to the important question "who will be saved?"
II. Messages by Our Lord Jesus Christ
- Jesus told Marguerite on November 21, 1966 :
- "Be aware of the grave problems of the present day. Be aware of
the decline of faith in souls. Be aware of the necessity of prayer and
sacrifice" (p. 191).
- Then on March 27, 1970 :
- "Yes, their crime is great, and yet ... Shall I advance My hour
for them and for those whom they pervert to their heresies? I have pity
for little souls and for their tormentors. Before long I shall no longer
withhold My holy justice. And MY DAY will come, THE DAY OF THE
LORD (emphasis in the original). And this day will see the triumph
of My justice and My love" (p. 431).
- On June 9, 1971 :
- "The hour of choosing has arrived. On the one side, My faithful
ones; on the other, My poor rebellious children. The good grain separates
itself from the cockles. It is time of the harvest and all will be known
by their works" (p. 462).
- On September 7, 1972:
- "One day a God, burning with love, created the world to give this
love a reason for its existence. This world has never ceased to disappoint
its Creator."
- "Today the measure has reached its limit: unless the world be
converted it will undergo punishment for its felony. It will return to
the nothingness from which I drew it. They have forgotten that they are
only dust and ashes. The earth will consist only of dust and ashes. But
on these ruins My love will be reborn, more vital and more luminous than
ever. It will find in appeased souls the plenitude of its creative and
saving action" (pp. 482-483).
- On April 28, 1972 :
- "Faith is entombed in the lowest strata of this pleasure-loving
world. For many, hope is no more than a far off memory of a time when their
hearts aspired to the truth" (p. 471).
- On April 12, 1974 :
- "The time of trial, of justice is coming. I can no longer restrain
My justice. Tribulation will come also" (p. 517).
- On April 16, 1974:
- "You have understood, My daughter, that the catastrophes occurring
here and elsewhere are warnings. You have also understood that these warnings
are not sufficient to save the world, for the world is blind and deaf.
It sees and hears only what it wishes to see and hear... The heart is the
seat of all the passions; that is why their hearts will be stricken...
Evil comes from within; it is from within that conversion must come. And
because they will be stricken at the source, it is from the heart that
renovation will come, and My Reign will be established over the whole world"
(pp. 518-519).
- Jesus told Marguerite on July 4, 1975:
- "I know know already that, for the most part, the advances of
a God will remain unanswered" (p. 550).
- Jesus told Marguerite on January 5, 1966 :
- "The sense of the divine is being lost. Exaggerated modernism
is destroying even the life of grace in many souls" (p. 76).
- On September 28, 1966 :
- "My child, have you gone deeply into this thought before now:
the contrast existing between the holy liberty of the children of light
and the so-called liberty given by the world? Meditate on this subject"
(p. 166).
- On January 5, 1967, Jesus warned mankind:
- "They have made life such as they wished it, according to their
poor intelligence. Therefore, while possessing millions of brothers, they
are alone because enclosed in their ego. The ideology of the nations is
contrary to My designs for them. I will destroy their golden calf. If I
must cut, and again cut, I will do it to save them... The shadow of destruction
hovers the universe. If the nations are not converted, let them expect
grave calamities on land, on sea and in the air. Vain and presumptuous
as they are, let them take care lest when they have liberated the forces
of evil, these in their turn annihilate them" (p. 214).
- On October 27, 1967:
- "The thorny problems present in the world at this moment arise
from the complexity of human nature. If men were as wise as they are foolish,
they could make this earth a paradise in anticipation. But on the contrary,
by their inordinate pride they provoke the unbalanced state of creation.
The upsetting ideology they profess only tends to destroy life in souls"
(p. 342).
- On November 18, 1967:
- "At the present moment I am experiencing the worst outrages I
have ever known" (p. 346).
- On October 27, 1969:
- "Pride is worse than bodily death. It is death and corruption
of souls and draws down on them God's chastisement" (p. 419).
- On June 4, 1973, Jesus explained the correct concept of liberty :
- "The Work of the Lord is sealed by His love and His mercy. It
is gentle and full of solicitude to help you. It does not command you,
for your liberty is something you already possess and your Creator respects
it. It excludes egoism, falsehood and pride" (p. 496).
- On August 3, 1966, Marguerite asked Jesus why He had to suffer, why
men sin and why men know little of God's love for mankind.
- Jesus replied : "Because man, imbued with his foolish superiority,
believes himself a god on earth. They do not discern the worthlessness
of what makes them delight" (p. 137).
- Jesus pointed out to Marguerite on November 16, 1966:
- "So much misery on earth through the fault of cruel and selfish
men. From My Cross I sadly contemplate the vanity of some, the insolence
of others" (p. 188).
- On April 14, 1970:
- "Man's pride will be the cause of his loss, for loves only that
which makes it greater" (p. 433).
- On July 21, 1966:
- "Of what use are their learned theories? True science comes from
Me. But I only give it to little souls. I abhor the proud and they will
not overstep the limits that I have fixed. My delight is in My gentle and
humble little nobodies." (p. 131).
- September 21, 1966:
- Oh My children, understand above all the necessity for prayer and renunciation.
A terrible menace weighs on the world. Must I hasten My hour because of
you? Ignorant and foolish that you are, now you want to be equal to your
God. Take care, lest My mercy give place to My justice. Enough of that!
Begin again! Otherwise I shall be obliged to compel you. Then you will
indeed cry out in terror. Ah pray! Pray to My holy Mother. She alone has
the power to turn aside My wrath.
- November 16, 1966:
- That which is conformable to My law is just. There is no need to seek
farther. And every Christian worthy of this name must accept and welcome
My Word with a simple and loving heart. Happiness is not for the complicated.
Their science is useless and only serves to confuse them a little more.
Faith in My love is worth more than all their fine discourses, however
learned they may be. Of what use are their inventions? To kill, to cause
suffering. Life is short for all and they seek to make it shorter still.
They are on earth as if they were to stay there eternally....So much misery
on earth through the fault of cruel and selfish men. From My Cross I sadly
contemplate the vanity of some, the insolence of others." (p. 188).
- On May 2 and May 5, 1971, Jesus said to Marguerite:
- "At this moment the blind are leading the blind. They have lost
the sense of supernatural realities and man himself has become a god for
man. They adore that which they should burn. Subtly they kill God in souls...
Man must be put back into his place, and that place which in his pride
he usurped, must be given back to God. He must recognize My rights and
his dependence with regard to Me... Children of men, pride ravages your
souls. Vice and corruption are the kings of today" (pp. 458-459).
- Again, on September 29, 1967 :
- "In all circumstances they take counsel of themselves alone. This
is the great mistake of the present time" (p. 333).
- Jesus lamented and warned on April 20, 1973:
- "... The harvest time is near. What have you sown, sons of darkness?
Hatred, envy, lust, pride. These are the fruits of death. And what has
become of the fruits of life, subject of My teaching? Piety, decency, obedience,
the virtue of humility? Faith and hope are banished from this world. And
what shall I say of your charity? I have never ceased to love you, notwithstanding
your infidelity. But take care. If you do not amend your ways, tomorrow
it will be too late." (p. 489)
- Finally, on October 4, 1967, to the question "who will be saved?"
Jesus answered:
- "Hell receives only the worst of the waste products of humanity.
Believe firmly that before abandoning a soul, I have tried all the means
at the disposal of My mercy to save it. Who wishes to be saved? The just
man and the repentant sinner. Who refuses to be saved ? The hardened sinner.
Who will be saved ? He who desires it with faith and confidence.
My Heart bends tenderly towards him who humbles himself."

"Who is like unto God?"
