Affiliated with the American Association of Zoological Parks and Aquariums, primarily hookbills or "parrot-like" birds. Pheasant, geese, ducks, chickens, peafowl, guinea fowl, pigeons and doves, and one lone bluejay round out the flock the sanctuary located east of Pueblo, Co.
The site is currently available for school trips, but our current focus is to install a bigger facility and a barn. When these are in place, we hope to open to the public.
We are also very interested in securing captive populations of birds that are rare or endangered in the wild. Our primary goal is to breed the Greater and Lesser Vasas. Though we have a good flock of these birds, we have not yet had any breeding success. If you have any of these, or any other birds that should be put into a breeding situation, please give us a call and we'll try to set something up.
